This project aimed to revolutionize how kitchens handle food waste by integrating smart hardware, a mobile app, and a WeChat mini-program into a unified ecosystem. Designed with sustainability at its core, the system follows a Track – Discover – Drive framework to help users monitor, analyze, and reduce food waste effectively in everyday kitchen settings.
Overview
Our responsibilities covered end-to-end design: from UX research and user journey mapping to UI design, prototyping, and ensuring design consistency across all components. The result was a smart, user-centric system that promotes behavioral change and reduces waste, empowering users to make more mindful food decisions.

Design Challenge
Wastely Solutions needed a user-friendly system to help reduce food waste in commercial kitchens. The challenge was to design an experience that integrated physical hardware with digital touchpoints—including a mobile app and WeChat mini-program—while educating users and encouraging behavioral change. Additionally, the design had to cater to both Western and Chinese user preferences, across multiple devices and platforms.
Soutions
Our team created a cohesive, cross-platform experience grounded in the Track – Discover – Drive framework. The solution featured a seamless flow from data tracking via hardware, to user-friendly data visualization and actionable insights across web and mobile. We focused on clarity, accessibility, and simplicity to ensure users could easily understand their waste habits and take immediate action. The design was informed by research and testing to make sure the system was intuitive, culturally adaptable, and effectively encouraged sustainable behavior.
